Charleston Children's Museum

Johnny works during the day, so the kids and I are on our own to explore. Yesterday we drove into downtown Charleston to visit the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry. The kids had a BLAST! It was just the right age level for them, well planned, educational, and fun.

Now, don't they just know how to melt a mama's heart?

Fun apparatus for rolling golf balls around.

Not a very good photo, but there was a giant pirate ship right in the middle of the museum!
The kids could climb all over it and 'drive' it.

Am I the only one who thinks this is ironic?

This was their favourite station: a big grocery store with kid-sized grocery carts where the could practice shopping.
They LOVED it!

We've been to a couple other shopping play areas like this one, but here's a sure sign you're in the South!
Never been to another store like this where they sell grits!

After 'buying' all his plastic food, he sat down at the deli counter and pretended to take a single bite of each item.
Oh, if only he'd actually try red pepper or eggplant.

Stopped for a little outdoor snack. It wasn't super hot,
but we had the entire outdoor garden and waterfall to ourselves!

The last room we visited was set up like a giant castle, with staircases and pathways and tunnels
all around the perimeter. The kids would run through the pathways and peek down on the
grownups from windows above us. Aili and Tomio also had to make giant towers with lego.

On the way back to the car we passed this water fountain, and it was warm and pleasant out
so I said 'what the heck?' and they took off their shoes and splashed around.
I think it might have been their favourite part of the day!
